Ritva Nyberg appointed Director of Library Services in Espoo

Ritva Nyberg, M.A., has been elected Director of Espoo Library Services. Nyberg has a solid knowledge of Helmet libraries, and she has cooperated over the years a lot with Espoo people while working in Vantaa City Library for almost 25 years in different positions. Most recently, Nyberg was the Development Manager of the Urban Culture Department in Vantaa.

“Espoo City Library is truly resident-oriented, something that inspires me especially. I think that constant improvement of customer service and development of operations to meet the actual needs of residents are good goals for any public library,” Nyberg says.

The Director of Library Services is responsible for the operation of the service area, finances, personnel, and the management of customer relationships and partnerships in accordance with the set goals. Cultural Director Susanna Tommila says that Nyberg is well-placed to succeed in the task.

“The role of the library in the development of a socially sustainable city is significant. As stated in the CultureEspoo 2030 programme, the library is involved in the creation of new urban citizenship with a community spirit that encourages participation. Espoo City Library has pioneered this development. Ritva Nyberg’s strong expertise and open-minded attitude towards the future will help her steer the development of the library towards this goal,” says Tommila.

Nyberg will take up her post on 1 September 2021 as the current director, Jaana Tyrni, moves on to new challenges.

“I can’t wait to get acquainted with all the great work being done in the libraries in Espoo. I accept the task with gratitude and promise to do my best!” says happy Nyberg.

The position of director of library services was available to apply from between 23 March and 13 April 2021, with 10 applications received within the deadline.
