The opening times of six libraries will be prolonged from the beginning of next year
From 1 January 2018 onwards, the libraries in Itäkeskus, Kontula, Pasila, Rikhardinkatu, Töölö and Vuosaari will open on weekdays at 8am. Kallio Library will also follow these opening hours as soon as it reopens after renovation works in February. This trial will last for one year.
From 1 January 2018, the libraries in Itäkeskus, Kontula, Pasila, Rikhardinkatu, Töölö and Vuosaari will open between Monday and Friday at 8am instead of the regular opening hour of 9am. In the early morning from 8 to 10am,
the library facilities and materials will be available in self-service form to clients. During those hours, it will also be possible to borrow, return, and collect reserved items as self-service.
Even though staff will be present in the library during the first opening hours, they will be focused on taking care of logistical matters related to the materials. The staff will serve clients as usual from 10am until the closing time.
Kallio Library’s renovation works will finish in February, and it will reopen with a new opening hour of 8am from Monday to Friday.
This trial will run until the end of 2018.
‘By earlier opening hours we want to give our clients a better opportunity to take advantage of the library facilities and materials,’ says Head of Public Services Sami Jyläs from Vuosaari Library.
‘This is also done to ensure that there are more staff present at times when there are also more clients in the library.’
At the end of the year, customer feedback will be crucial in deciding whether the prolonged opening hours will be continued in 2019.
‘Customer feedback is very important to us in the development of our services. It means a lot in this matter too,’ Jyläs says.
From 1 January 2018, the new opening times for all libraries will be shown on the website www.helmet.fi
